Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe that the 2020-21 school year has come to a close! I can’t express how thankful we are for the grace you have given us as we navigated the unknown waters of this past year. Through all of the ups and downs our students continued to learn and grow together as a school family. Please join me in congratulating the graduating class of 2021. This class of 154 seniors celebrated their graduation on May 25th. We pray that God covers them with His grace as they leave us to do whatever they are being called to do, both in the near future as well as for the rest of their lives.
We have some staff members who will also be moving on to new life callings. We say goodbye and thank you to David Mosterd, Bri Wimmer, Michael Winowiecki, Corey Scheffers, Chris Render, Diane Roelofs and Bill Huizenga who all will not be returning to HCHS next fall. We can not thank them enough for the love, time and support that they have given to our students over their time at HC! We are confident that God will bless them greatly as they move on to the next chapter in their lives.
As we say goodbye to the above individuals we want to say welcome to some new staff members that will be joining the HCHS family: Dave DeBlecourt will join our team as school counselor, Jill Davis and Isaac DeBoer as teaching staff. We are thankful that God has placed Holland Christian in the path of each of these amazing individuals!
This school year has been a mix of highs and lows, but without a doubt it has been a wonderful year. I have watched students grow into becoming the young men and women that God created them to be. They strive to support each other by creating a Christ centered community that brings Shalom to Chaos as well as welcomes and includes everyone by Preparing a Table for All and in doing so are a Living Testimony of our faith showing that we are Woven Together in Christ. While these positive activities have been at the center of our year together, there have also been actions and behaviors that have been obstacles to creating this type of community. Excluding others, tearing each other down, posting negative social media comments about others, displaying symbols of divisiveness, playing music that contains racial slurs and using language that is not Christ honoring have occurred. Please know that our expectation is to create a learning environment that is Christ honoring and develops community. We know that there will be times when we fall short of meeting this expectation but also know that together, with God’s help, we will address the issue, learn from it, build each other up and strive to restore community. I am excited to see what God has planned for the future as we grow together and become a school community that is Christ honoring in all we do.
I want to wish you and your families a safe and relaxing summer. If you have any questions during the summer, please call the High School office at 616.820.2905 and Kelli VanEerden or Charity VanderLaan will help you.
It is an honor to serve as your principal.
In His service,
Deb
/ General Information
How to get your 20/21 grades online after June 11
- Log in to PowerSchool as either parent or student.
- Click on the “Grades History” icon on the left.
- Grades for the current school year will be listed
The columns for 2nd semester are: A2 (18 weeks of coursework), E2 (2nd semester exam), and S2 (2nd semester final grade–this is the important one that appears on transcripts and determines cumulative GPA).
If you receive a grade of “CR” in a course, it means you received credit but it won’t count in your GPA.
