Long time Holland Christian tennis coach, John Knoester, will be inducted into the Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame at their annual banquet on January 28, 2022. The event will take place at the Haworth Inn (225 College Ave) on the campus of Hope College beginning at 6:31pm.

Coach Knoester coached for 12 years in California before beginning his tenure with the Maroons in the spring of 1990 for the boys program. He later added the varsity girls position in the fall of 1996 and coached both genders through the 2018-19 school year. Under his 30 years of leadership as a math teacher and tennis coach, the Maroons secured 10 boys conference titles, 12 girls regional championships, 15 girls conference titles, and 18 boys regional championships. Keep in mind that Holland Christian was not a part of a conference until the 2003-04 school year.  Coach Knoester took teams in a small school bus to the MHSAA state finals every year and drove home with 11 top 5 finishes for the boys and 12 top 5 finishes for the girls. The 2005 and 2006 girls seasons were capped with division three state championships.

Achievements are fairly easy to acknowledge and Coach Knoester experienced a lot of success on the court with his teams, but he is always quick to humbly point out the high caliber of athletes he coached and the quality assistant coaches who were in partnership with him. There are hundreds of athletes who enjoyed playing tennis on his teams for 30 years at Holland Christian. John cared more about the athletes and the preparation work behind the scenes than any coaching title or championship earned. He was a master at preparing seed meetings, running tournaments and did the background work necessary to create a great environment for all players involved. Congratulations to Coach Knoester on a well deserved induction in the Michigan HS Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame!
