Greetings,

One of the things I love about our middle school is we get to have chapel every week. Mr. Haig does a great job of leading us in worship and, usually, we have a speaker from our staff or community speak to the students. We have had a lot of great chapels this year. Recently we had Mrs. Geuder shaping clay on her pottery wheel while she described how we are like clay. One of the ideas she shared is that, when we submit to the Potter’s hand, we are moldable. Then, to be strengthened, we go through a firing process. During the firing process we are like pottery in that pottery undergoes a chemical change and can’t go back to what it was. I appreciated this visual connection Jenny made.

We also had a prayer chapel led by Mrs. Lundy. She had four different prayer stations set up and students and staff went to different stations to pray. In one of the stations we traced our hand and wrote down our prayer requests and then taped them to the wall. Once they were on the wall we spent time putting our hand on any traced hands and prayed the person’s prayer request.

This week Bryant Russ prepared us for Lent and talked about how we need to submit to our Lord Jesus. We need to do God’s will by setting aside our wants and needs and doing what our neighbors need us to do. Bryant closed with reminding us that Jesus submitted to God by following his will and dying on the cross for our sins. He didn’t want to die on the cross but wanted what his Father wanted. Bryant then invited us to have ashes in the shape of a cross put on our foreheads if we are willing to submit to God.

May God bless you and each of your students as we partner together in equipping minds and nurturing hearts to transform the world for Christ!
