Sun is shining, birds are chirping and buds are appearing–spring is in the air! As seasons change, it is always the tangible reminder that we serve such an amazing Creator who has planned such artistry for His creation. This time of year we also are able to get outside a lot more both at home and at school which makes for happy and engaged children. What a blessing it has been to watch our students grow spiritually, emotionally and academically. We look forward to the next few remaining weeks together as we have a lot of exciting things happening this month as we wrap up the end of a school year.

Announcements
Tulip Time
Wednesday, May 10 will be a full day for all students due to Tulip Time removing the Wednesday parade. On Thursday, May 11, our 1st and 2nd graders will participate in the Tulip Time Kinderparade. We will have a normal school schedule in the morning. Preschoolers will be dismissed at their normal time (11:15am) with no afternoon enrichment. Kindergarteners will be dismissed at 11:30am. All kindergarten students will need to use carpool that day, as all buses are being used for getting students to the parade. First and second graders will remain at school, eat a sack lunch from home (hot lunch is NOT provided), have recess, change into their marching apparel (if they choose not to wear it to school that day), and be bussed to the parade route.
An information page and pick up slip is coming home with all first and second graders today. Please return the bottom portion of this slip to your child’s teacher by Friday, May 5 so she has the contact information of the person who will be picking up your child at the parade. Thank you!
From the Parent Board
Thank you for the many ways you gave to celebrate and appreciate our teachers!
Join the Parent Board
We have a whole host of ways for parents to help out, plug into the school community, and join our team! South Side/Pine Ridge have their own Parent Team, a volunteer group of dedicated parents that support the teachers and staff, raise money beyond the budgetary allowances for extra educational materials and equipment, and enfold new families into our school family.
We’re looking for more new members and helping hands next year! If you are interested in getting more involved with school and building new relationships with the Holland Christian family in this way, please email Tami Schippers or Emily Baker. You can also come and see what we’re all about by joining our next meeting on Friday, May 19 at 8:30am in South Side’s lounge.
May Staff Appreciation
Parent Board is looking for donations of snacks and drinks to add to our teachers’ lounge for our teacher appreciation in May! If you’d be willing to donate any snack or drink items for our staff, please drop them off at the office.
Kindergarten Visit Day
On Friday, May 19, we will be welcoming our newest group of kindergarteners, the class of 2036, to visit South Side from 9-10am. There will be fun activities for newly enrolled kindergarteners for the 23-24 school year, and a time of information for the parents. Families who enrolled will be receiving more communication via email.
End of the Year Chapel
Save the date! We will have a special end of the year chapel to send off our 2nd graders on the last day of school, Friday, June 2. Come gather with us from 10:25-11:15am for a time of worship together. We’ll be out on the playground, so bring a lawn chair if you’d like (if there’s rain we’ll move it to the gym). After chapel, preschool students will be dismissed, and K-2 students will have a quick 15 minutes to close out the year in the classrooms with their teacher, and their dismissal will follow at 11:30am.
Thank You
A huge thank you to all for supporting the 1st grade Rainforest Bake Sale initiative to raise funds to help save and protect these precious lands! Through your support, we raised $384.00! We feel so blessed by your support with this project–it’s a great, hands-on way for us to teach our students about stewardship of this beautiful Earth God has blessed us with!
Lost & Found
The office is continuing to update our South Side Lost and Found Photo Album as items come into the gray tub in the office. Please check it out to see if any of these items belong to your child. Feel free to email Jenna to claim your item(s), and she will be sure to get it in your child’s backpack.
Also, we have a pair of adult men’s sunglasses that have been turned into the office. Please stop in, email, or call the office 616.820.3535 to identify and pick them up.
