IT IS BEGINNING TO FEEL LIKE FALL AND I LOVE IT! Fall is one of my favorite times of year. The warm days and cool nights, beautiful Harvest moon, the leaves turning, pumpkin bars and apple crisp…YUM! October is also a time when the students are getting into the new year’s routine in their classrooms. It is so fun to get to know each of them and to see how they have changed from last year. I have loved being able to greet them most mornings. Their smiles fill up my bucket!! The first week of October, I will start WOW Time where I will take each classroom and do a special lesson and activity with them. I love this time with them so I can get to know them better. It is one of my favorite things to do a little teaching again.

Thank you so much for your generous donations to the 2022 Parent Board sponsored Walkathon! Our students had so much fun getting their laps in at the high school, and we are so grateful for the funds raised that will be used for instructional materials to enhance student learning, STEM kits for student exploration, and potential playground updates.
From the Parent Board
Parent Board would like to help feed South Side staff members during Parent/Teacher Conferences. If you would like to help out on Monday, October 17, please use the parent/teacher conference sign-up genius to sign up. Hot and cold food can be dropped off at South Side on October 17 from 3-4pm. Other food items can be dropped off anytime throughout the day.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent teacher conferences are coming in October. South Side’s conferences will be in person on Monday, October 17 from 4-8pm, and virtually on Wednesday, October 19 from 12-4pm (the 19th will be a half day of school with dismissal at 11:30am).
Scheduling Parent/Teacher Conferences is done through Virtual Paragon, which HC has used in the past. To make your PT Conference reservations, please see the instructions in the general October Newsletter emailed to you on Friday, September 30.
Note from Food Service
Food service is in full swing, thanks to YOU for being patient and persistent with our Family Portal. Please continue to use the family portal to deposit funds into your lunch account. We are a pre-pay system, and appreciate families having funds in your child’s account when they choose to take hot lunch. There is no fee to deposit money into your account online. Familyportal.cloud is where you can deposit funds, or apply for lunch benefits. If you do not know your student account number, reach out and email Jenna Ritsema or email Pat Meiste.
For those families receiving lunch benefits and who want only milk, the NSLP does not give benefits for milk only. If your child wants free or reduced price milk, students may take a fruit, vegetable and the milk will be under their benefits.
Picture Retakes
As soon as we receive school pictures from GPI, we will send them home. If you are unhappy with the way pictures turned out, retakes will be Wednesday, November 2. Please remember to email your child’s teacher so she can note that you need retakes, and also send your child’s original picture packet back to school.
