I was walking the halls of Pine Ridge the other day and a student came up to me and asked if I knew where all the shiny yellow stars had gone that we had up in the hallway. I explained that we took them down to put something different up. She seemed sad for a minute but then said, “I bet you still have all the stars from years past, huh?” She smiled at the thoughts of the school saving her star.  One of our values here at Holland Christian Schools is hospitality where not only do you want each child and family to feel welcomed but to be seen. We give each other grace, care and create a community that learns together. I pray this month you find ways to show grace and care to those in your community and around the tables at which you sit. It is my desire that we continue to grow in this way here at Pine Ridge.
In Christ,
Dinah Pereira

A Few Notes from Parent Board

Urban Air Night

Pine Ridge students are invited to a night out at Urban Air November 6th! Cost is $5 per student. Permission slips have been sent home. Please be sure to bring the form back (even if you fill out the online version) as well as your $5 to the office in advance! This will help us get everyone in and jumping quicker.

This event is for Pine Ridge students only–no siblings. Parents are encouraged to stay.

Book Fair: December 8-10

Our school book fair is more than just a chance to pick up a new favorite book–it is a fun and exciting way to support our school library! Every purchase helps us earn new books for our Pine Ridge library by putting more stories, knowledge and inspiration into the hands of our students. In order to make this happen, we need your help! Please sign up to help us make our school book fair a successful event.
Even if you can’t help out, please come join the fun and help us grow our library, one book at a time!  You are welcome to come in and check out the fair or you can order online as well.
The online store link will be available starting November 14 to view and December 5 to shop.

Student Life & Discipleship

This past month we started what we call Chapel Groups here at Pine Ridge. This is a time where multi-aged groups are formed and with the leadership of a staff member we focus on our monthly scripture, listen to a word from our Director of Faith Formation and  get to know each other. This time has been a great way to help us stay rooted in the word, just like we do during chapel but with a smaller group. We have been able to really dig into what Psalm 8 and Psalm 23 are teaching us and find ways to reflect His word.
We have also started PR Shout-outs. This is a fun weekly announcement where grade-levels, individual classes or even teachers get a “shout-out” for showing exceptional PR expectations. These are then posted near the library for others to see throughout the week. It has been a fun way to connect with students and staff on how we show respect, responsibility and positive relationships.
Practice Respect, Practice Responsibility, Practice positive Relationships.

Pine Ridge Carpool Line

Please watch your email this weekend (October 31-November 2) for an update on what next week’s carpool will look like! We are hoping to be back to normal on Monday.

Moms in Prayer

Moms in Prayer meets Fridays at Providence Church across from the middle school from 8:30-9:30am. We look forward to welcoming any moms who would like to partner in prayer for this school year! Please email Nicole Shook for any questions.

Medications at School

As a reminder, no student may be in possession of any medication over the counter or otherwise. The only exceptions are an epipen or inhaler with the correct forms completed in the office!

Food Services

For students taking hot lunch, please deposit money into your student’s online portal before they order! If you have any questions about lunches, please contact Sue.

PowerSchool

PowerSchool is our student information database. You will want to bookmark this site! There is also an app available for PowerSchool for your phone which can be very helpful. If there is a change in your phone number or address at any time during the school year, it is important that we are informed right away. Parents can update their information on PowerSchool directly on the Demographics Change tab. This assures up-to-date contact information for your child.

Elementary Handbook

The Elementary Handbook is a great resource for parents providing important details on things like our curriculum, discipline policy, technology policy, etc.
