Rose Park Families,
Last month, you heard a bit about our Holland Christian value of discovery. As we enter December, I want to share about our core value of discernment. Discernment is practiced and lived out in a variety of tangible ways at school and in life:

  • Our second graders seek God’s truth as they learn more about prayer and put it into practice within our community.
  • Our entire student body embraces discernment as they hide God’s Word in their hearts during “sing, move, and memorize.”
  • Students grow in courage and discernment as they try new things and learn to navigate challenges, whether it’s a tricky lesson or a moment of tension in a friendship.

May we all be people of discernment who anchor ourselves in God’s Word and let it impact each area of our lives.

Blessings to each of you,

Katelyn Roskamp

Student Life and Discipleship

In the month of November we have been thinking and talking about what it means to live into our discipleship practice of order discovering. Mrs. Diekema did a wonderful chapel in which she encouraged us to discover order in the world around us, and in the things God has created. She also emphasized the importance of putting our relationship with God first as we fill up our lives with so many good things! In December we will focus on our discipleship practice of servant living at Rose Park. Your child’s teacher may even send them on a secret mission in an effort to love and serve those around them. In Romans 12:10 we are reminded to “Be devoted to one another in love,” and I pray we are able to spend the month of December finding both small and big ways to love and serve.

Christmas Spirit Week

To get in the spirit of Christmas, we are going to have some fun, themed days our last week of school before Christmas Break, December 15-19. Here’s what we (along with all of the other HC elementary schools) have planned:

  • 12/15 Monday: Christmas headgear (antlers, hats, headbands)
  • 12/16 Tuesday: Christmas sweater
  • 12/17 Wednesday: Red/green day
  • 12/18 Thursday: Christmas socks
  • 12/19 Friday: Christmas PJs

Kindergarten Cookie Sale

"We can't stop talking about what we've seen and heard!" - Acts 4:20 Meet Noé and Kathlyn - a couple on a mission in Guatemala with their two adventurous little girls! Noé grew up right in Guatemala, while Kathlyn moved there in 2013, and both were raised in families where serving others and following Jesus was just part of everyday life. Noé, a physical therapist, has seen God bring strength and healing to people in incredible ways. Kathlyn has spent over 10 years leading Art Camps for at-risk kids alongside Athentikos, where she's seen lives experience hope by God's love and creativity. Now, they join together offering art and physical therapy - to help people experience Jesus in real, life-changing ways. Their dream? That everyone they meet will encounter God so powerfully that they just can't stop sharing what He's done! The kindergarten classes are getting excited for our annual Cookie Sale, which is coming up on Thursday, December 11! This year our proceeds will go to the Chan family. Noé and Kathlyn Chan, along with their two daughters Haddie and Alizah, are missionaries in Guatemala, serving God by using their gifts in art and physical therapy. They became friends with Maestra Klipp Lopez while her family was serving in Guatemala, and we are so excited to come alongside and support their family! The Cookie Sale will begin at 9am and cookies will cost 50 cents each. Below is more information about the Chan family and their ministry:

Weather Appropriate Clothing

As the weather cools down, we want to make sure all our Rose Park kids stay cozy outside. If the temperature is 50 degrees or below, students are asked to wear a coat for recess. Please send a coat and other needed winter gear with your child each day so they can stay warm and enjoy their time outdoors. Thank you!

Discovery Night at Rose Park

Do you or any of your friends or family have a prospective preschooler or kindergartener? Are you or someone you know looking into options for the 26-27 school year? We’ll be having our Discovery Night on January 15 from 6-7pm, and we’d love to have you come and explore Rose Park’s preschool and kindergarten programs! Since we prepare individually for each family visiting this Discovery Night, we would so appreciate your RSVP for Discovery Night.

If you are unable to make it to Discovery Night, you are still welcome to visit Holland Christian Schools in person and see things in action for yourself. Feel free to schedule a campus tour through by filling out our Inquiry Form. Enrollment for the 26-27 will begin school year begins February 1, 2026.
