My name is Chan Song, and I have been working with international students my whole professional life. My wife and I were both born and raised in South Korea. After studying the English language in Vancouver, Canada and loving it, I moved back to Korea and then received offers from Canadian schools to organize their international programs, and started my own business in this field. Eventually my wife and I moved to the Grand Rapids area to better work for the international programs in a variety of schools in the area, including Grand Rapids Christian, West Catholic, and Holland Christian. Within a few years of moving to the United States, we were thrilled to have a son. We also enjoyed meeting our new neighbors, and grew very close to them. They accepted us as family without anything in return, and would often have us over for holidays and meals. Through these dear friends that brought so much joy to our lives, we learned about life in America, but also that although differences can be difficult, they also can lead to valuable growth and great joy. So, I would like to share my experience with international students coming to Holland Christian.
