International Students

Holland Christian Schools provides a unique opportunity for international students to study abroad and acquire an American education.

International students can attend 9th-12th grades, for-credit classes alongside their American counterparts to earn a U.S. high school diploma. Students are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities, thereby giving them a true American high school experience.

We invite any international student in 9th-11th grade who meets our criteria for admission to apply to our school by completing the International Application for Admission linked below. Holland Christian School High School is located in Holland, Michigan, a town of approximately 35,000 people located on the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan. Academic Opportunities

Holland Christian High School offers a large variety of courses including English, Literature, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Bible, Latin, Spanish, as well as numerous electives in different areas. Additionally, eleven Advanced Placement (AP) or dual enrollment classes are offered in Art, Calculus, US History, World History, Psychology, Chemistry, Statistics, Literature, Drawing, Principles of Business, and Business Management.

In addition, Holland Christian offers more than 50 award winning co- and extra-curricular programs including band, orchestra, drama, and choir, and 78% of our student body participates in one or more of these co- or extra-curricular programs. Holland Christian has received 21 state championships in our athletics programs and seven state championships in in our theatre program.

Holland Christian High School has a one-to-one technology program so that each student has his or her own Apple laptop computer during the school year. As a result, Holland Christian has been recognized repeatedly as an Apple Distinguished Program for our innovative use of technology in education.

Holland Christian High School is designed around 21st century spaces for learning; the school recently completed a $25 million renovation to implement design that best reflects the variety of ways that students learn and function in today’s educational world.

Specialized International Student Services

We currently have 16 international students from four different countries and have had a formal international program in place since 2006. Over the years, we’ve developed a special program specifically for our international students. The international program includes specialized student support services, a dedicated guidance counselor to assist with the college entrance process, as well as exciting special activities through our International Club extra-curricular program.

International Program Criteria for Admission

Holland Christian Schools enrolls international students for credit into 9th, 10th and 11th grades. Students who attend for at least two years including their 12th grade year and meet graduation requirements will graduate with a diploma from Holland Christian Schools.

Listed below are the criteria for admission:

  • At least one parent or guardian has a credible personal testimony of a relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • There is membership in, or regular attendance at, a church in which the Bible is sincerely believed to be the inspired word of God and is therefore the basis for all life and learning.
  • There is an understanding of and agreement with the mission of Holland Christian Schools to provide children with a God-centered education in which Jesus Christ is acknowledged in every area of life.
  • Each student gives evidence of a commitment to the learning process based on past records and entrance interviews.
  • Each student gives evidence of or potential for emotional stability, a satisfactory behavior record, and adequate social adjustment.
  • The student will live in a home stay environment provided by the school or another agreement determined with the school.
  • The student must be proficient in English, as determined by the school, in order to enroll and receive credit.
  • We also expect that parents agree with the Mission and Belief Statements, linked here, of the school.

Application Checklist

Step 1: Application

A completed application must include the following completed documents, in English:

Step 2: Interview

Based on the completed application, a student interview will be scheduled.

Step 3: Acceptance

Based on the completed application and interview, enrollment opportunities will be determined by Holland Christian personnel.

Step 4: Tuition Payment

Tuition payment is due to finalize enrollment. After payment is received the school will issue the I-20. Failure to pay tuition results in a forfeit of enrollment.

Step 5: I-20 Issued

An I-20 will be issued for the student once the tuition payment has been received.

Step 6: Host Family Match

The student will be paired with a host family once the student is approved for enrollment.

Step 7: Visa & Passport

After the I-20 is issued, the student must obtain a Visa in his or her home country.

Step 8: Class Scheduling & Arrival

Students must plan to arrive in Holland, Michigan one week prior to school beginning in the fall of 2022; see the school calendar here.

  • Students must let their host parents know when they will be arriving.
  • New students are required to attend all orientations.
  • The registrar will meet with the student once they arrive to set up a class schedule.
