Meet the International Program Team

Kyle Kempster
International Program Coordinator

Hi there! I am excited to be at Holland Christian as an international student coordinator with over 15 years of experience facilitating the educational and cultural experiences of students from around the world. I count it a privilege to be a part of a program that brings students to our school in order to experience cultural exchange and personal growth. My goal is to work with host families, students, staff and the Holland Christian school community to share faith together.

I live in Grand Haven with my wife, Jennifer, and have a son Jake who lives in L.A. and a daughter Emily who lives in Grand Rapids. I love to run, kayak, hike, read action adventure/spy novels and generally enjoy outdoor activities. I also consider myself a foodie and consider all international food a gift to be tried!

Chanho Song
International Program Coordinator

My name is Chan Song, and I have been working with international students my whole professional life. My wife and I were both born and raised in South Korea. After studying the English language in Vancouver, Canada and loving it, I moved back to Korea and then received offers from Canadian schools to organize their international programs, and started my own business in this field. Eventually my wife and I moved to the Grand Rapids area to better work for the international programs in a variety of schools in the area, including Grand Rapids Christian, West Catholic, and Holland Christian.

Within a few years of moving to the United States, we were thrilled to have a son. We also enjoyed meeting our new neighbors, and grew very close to them. They accepted us as family without anything in return, and would often have us over for holidays and meals. Through these dear friends that brought so much joy to our lives, we learned about life in America, but also that although differences can be difficult, they also can lead to valuable growth and great joy. So, I would like to share my experience with international students coming to Holland Christian.

Miles Colago
High School Principal

After 18 years of -40° winters and “You Betcha!”, I moved from Anoka, Minnesota to Michigan to attend Calvin College, where I earned a B.A. in English and Education and a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership. After Calvin College, my wife, Sarah, and I married and moved to the D.R. to teach at Santiago Christian School together. From there, we moved back to Michigan to serve at The Potter’s House. Sarah and I have three children, Malachi, Aaliyah, and Marihaah. God has established such a rich history to build upon at HC and a beautiful mission of forming faithful disciples of Jesus who may effect positive change in the Kingdom of God. I am so thankful to be serving in this square inch of the Garden alongside this amazing HC staff.

Dave Deblecourt
High School Counselor

I am a 1995 Trinity Christian College grad and received my Master’s from Western Michigan University in 2005. Before coming to Holland Christian, I was as a school counselor at South Christian High School from 2015-2021. Prior to that, I taught Physical Education at Byron Center Christian and Calvary Academy (South Holland, IL). My wife Emily is a 1994 graduate of HCHS. She is a social worker. We have 3 children: Andrew, Lydia and Miya. I enjoy spending time with my wife and kids, being outside, and playing sports. I consider it an honor to partner with students as they navigate their high school years. Each student is uniquely created and gifted. It is a privilege to walk with them as they better understand themselves and discern how they can best serve God and His Kingdom.
